  2. Is One Step effective in stopping rust?
Yes, One Step rust converter is a reliable way to stop and prevent further corrosion of metal surfaces. Many customers have been pleased with the results, so be sure to follow the instructions for optimal protection from Rust!
  3. Can I use a sprayer?
Yes, an airless sprayer is preferred for best results if you want to use a sprayer. Otherwise you can brush, sponge, or roll on.
  4. Can I put One-Step on hot engine parts or inside a tank?
No. Do not apply One-Step Rust Converter to hot engine parts or any moving parts like an adjustable wrench. Also, never put One-Step inside of a tank with liquid without contacting our office first to go over your application.
  5. Can One-Step freeze?
If one-step freezes and it is not a deep freeze then it can be thawed out.
  6. Do I need to use a top coat?
No you do not. One Step Rust Converter is a one-step rust neutralizing primer. A user does not need to use a top coat after applying One-Step the Rust Killer for most applications. One-Step Rust Converter provides rust protection by itself without a top coat. You may choose to topcoat or not depending on the environment. One Step can also be sanded and/or puttied if desired. If considering a top coat for added rust protection, please view our top coat recommendation sheet.
  7. What are the advantages of using a water-based One Step rust converter?
Water-based One Step rust converters provide an array of benefits that outshine those provided by solvent-based options. These eco-friendly products are not only safer to use, they also dry quicker and require less preparation than other types. Best of all? Clean up on painting tools is soap and water immediately after use.
  8. Can water-based rust converters be applied by brush or spray?
Yes, water-based rust converters can be applied by brush or spray, depending on the product and the surface being treated. Brush application is typically recommended for smaller areas and detailed type work. Spray is often more cost and time efficient for larger surfaces.
  9. Do I need to sandblast or wire brush?
You should remove what is loose and flaking and then you can leave the tightly adhered rust where it is. Then apply the One-Step the Rust Killer over the rust for long lasting results.
  10. Can One Step rust converter be used on a heavily rusted surface?
Yes, One step can also be used on heavily rusted surfaces but must be used properly and may require multiple applications or the use of additional tools for optimal results.
  11. Is One-Step safe to use?
Yes, One Step is a water-based rust converter that is generally safe to use and non-toxic. However, you should read SDS sheet, instructions and safety precautions prior to use.
  12. How does it work?
When One-step makes contact with rust it causes a chemical reaction that converts the rust into an inert polymer coating. In laymen terms it is a primer.
  13. How long does it take for One Step rust converter to dry?
The drying time can vary depending on the product and the conditions. In general, it can take anywhere from a few hours to 24 hours for the rust converter to dry completely at 50 Degrees F and up temperatures.
  14. How long will it last?
It should not rust again at all. When used properly, any rust that may form would be new rust. One-step neutralizes and kills existing rust completely.
  15. What happens if I put it on non-rusted areas?
It dries clear and has no negative effect.
  16. What color will it dry to?
The final color depends on what stage of rust it is and the environment it is in. Generally it dries to a shade of black, but there are times where it just dries clear and is still killing the rust. When rust is very light, it may dry to a more brownish color because One-step turns black when neutralizing rust. This also applies for when you apply the product to a galvanized area.
  17. What is the surface preparation?
Remove any loose flaking rust and leave the tightly adhered rust where it is. Clean with a suitable degreaser and then let it dry. You may then apply the One-Step Rust Converter and paint over the rust to kill, neutralize, and convert it.
  18. How do I clean up after use?
One Step is a water base and you should clean painting tools and simply and safely with soap and water immediately after use.
