What is Phosclear®? Phosclear® is a powdered version of buffered Alum. It is the same Alum and buffering agent components found in two-part systems and in some Alum pellets.
What is Alum? Alum is Aluminum Sulfate. This is the most widely used product to treat municipal waste waters for clarity and phosphate control. The Aluminum ions bond with phosphate molecules in the water. The resulting Aluminum Phosphate (AlPO4) is insoluble in water. This precipitate settles to the bottom of the pond and the phosphate is no longer available as a nutrient.
Also, the Aluminum ions act to agglomerate suspended dirt particles leaving the pond water sparkling clear.
Is the product safe for fish and aquatic plants? When used as directed, the product is safe for fish and aquatic plants. It effectively controls phosphate levels and agglomerates suspended dirt particles to leave the pond sparkling clear!
How is the product applied? The pH of the pond must be checked! We recommend that pH be between 6.5 and 8.2. The reason is that - in very alkaline ponds (above pH 8.2) the Aluminum in these products can react with the alkaline groups to form Aluminum Hydroxide which can be toxic to fish.
Phosclear® can be sprinkled as a powder over the water surface or introduced through a waterfall or skimmer intake. It is best to get the product circulating throughout the pond.
The water will initially turn milky white but begin to clear rapidly in 1 or 2 hours. Within 24 hours the pond should be significantly clearer than before treatment.
How often do I need to apply the product? For ponds with high phosphate levels or a lot of suspended dirt particles, additional treatments may be required after the first application. We recommend additional treatments every three (3) days until desired results are achieved.
Thereafter, the products should be applied every 4 to 6 weeks as routine maintenance. Please note: For items that ship by common carrier, you will be contacted by phone or email to confirm shipping charges prior to processing your order. |
